After all these things do the Gentiles seek. Worldliness and distrust are heathenish. The Pharisees, boasting of freedom from Gentile influence, were guilty of such distrust. Worldly men are quick to mock at the childlike trust in God here commanded.

For. This introduces an additional reason, yet one related to the other. Heathen, unbelievers in God's Providence, may act in this forbidden manner. Do not resemble them , for you believe that you have a heavenly Father and he knoweth that ye have need of all these things. He does not forbid your wants, but supplies them.
