Romans 14:19. Let us therefore; an inference from Romans 14:17-18.

Follow after the things of peace; those things which constitute peace.

And the things which pertain to mutual edification. Here the edification of individuals is meant; elsewhere the building up of the entire Church is spoken of. Godet finds in this clause the beginning of the second part of the section: not only follow after peace, and thus avoid grieving the weak brother, but build up, instead of pulling down, the work of God already begun in his heart; Romans 14:20-23 carrying out the thought.
