This chapter begins the story of Moses, the most remarkable type of Christ as Prophet, Saviour, Lawgiver, and Mediator, in all the Old Testament. In this chapter we have, ( 1,) The perils of his birth and infancy, Exodus 2:1.

(2,) His preservation through those perils, and the preferment of his childhood and youth, Exodus 2:5.

(3,) The pious choice of his riper years, which was to own the people of God;1, He offered them his service, if they would have accepted it, Exodus 2:11; Exodus 2:2, He retired, that he might reserve himself for further service, Exodus 2:15.

(4,) The dawning of the day of Israel's deliverance, Exodus 2:23.
