Same as xulon,. piece of timber (Acts 5:30; Acts 5:10; Acts 5:39; Galatians 1:3; Galatians 1:13; 1 Peter 2:24). Even the Latin crux means. mere stake, or stave (compare verses: Matthew 26:47; Matthew 26:55, &c.); while stauroo (here) means to drive stakes. See App-162.
