I robbed other churches,— "I may almost, in this sense, be said to have robbed other churches; so freely have I received from them, at least taking wages as it were of them, for waiting upon you; for indeed I received a kind of stipend from them while I abode at Corinth." The word εσυλησα, rendered robbed, properly signifies, I took the spoils: it is a military term, as is the next also οψωνιον, wages, or rather pay.
