Nehemiah. [Nehemi'ah]

1. Son of Hachaliah and a captive in Persia: he was cupbearer to king Artaxerxes, and was permitted to return and rebuild Jerusalem. He is called the Tirshatha, or governor. Nehemiah 1:1; Nehemiah 8:9; Nehemiah 10:1; Nehemiah 12:26, Nehemiah 1:12. See NEHEMIAH, BOOK OF.

2. A chief man who returned from exile. Ezra 2:2; Nehemiah 7:7.

3. Son of Azbuk: he helped to repair the wall of Jerusalem. Nehemiah 3:16.
