This differs from the Chronicles, where Ner is the son of Jehiel of Gibeon, and the father of Kish, the father of Saul. 1 Chronicles 8:33; 1 Chronicles 1:9, 1 Chronicles 1:9. The rabbis say that this Ner is the same person as Abiel; but others suppose him to be some earlier ancestor not elsewhere mentioned.
