A royal city of the Canaanites, Joshua 11:2, Joshua 12:23, within the territory of Asher, but allotted to Manasseh, Joshua 17:11, Judges 1:27, 1 Chronicles 7:29, and it was one of Solomon's provision-districts, 1 Kings 4:11; now Tantûra, eight miles north of Cæsarea, where there are considerable ruins.
