Ingratitude The vice of being insensible to favours received, without any endeavour to acknowledge and repay them. It is sometimes applied to the act of returning evil for good. Ingratitude, it is said, is no passion: for the God of nature has appointed no motion of the spirits whereby it might be excited; it is, therefore, a mere vice, arising from pride, stupidity, or narrowness of soul.
