Phoeno probably lay E. of, not within, Edom; as the Roman road is much to the right of the direct line of march. Punon may coincide with Kala'at Aneizeh, between el Ahsa (Oboth) and Ma'an (Numbers 33:42). Israel's second last stage before reaching the plains of Moab.
