And the king sent and called for Shimei, and said unto him, Build thee an house in Jerusalem, and dwell there, and go not forth thence any whither.

Mais, comme il était un personnage suspect, Salomon le condamna désormais à vivre à Jérusalem, sous peine de mort pour être passé sans les portes. Il se soumit à cet emprisonnement pendant trois ans, lorsque, violant son serment, il fut arrêté et mis à mort par Salomon pour parjure, aggravé par son ancien crime de haute trahison contre David.
