WHOSE NAME, IS CALLED ON IT - rather, 'who is worshipped there' (see on 2 Samuel 6:2)....

6-14 Let the sin of Uzza warn all to take heed of presumption, rashness, and irreverence, in dealing with holy things; and let none think that a good design will justify a bad action. Let the punishment of Uzza teach us not to dare to trifle with God in our approaches to him; yet let us, through Christ, come boldly to the throne of grace. If the gospel be to some a savour of death unto death, as the ark was to Uzza, yet let us receive it in the love of it, and it will be to us a savour of life unto life....

Verse 1 Chronicles 13:6. _WHOSE NAME IS CALLED_ ON IT.] "Where his name is invoked." - _T_. And so the Hebrew, אשר נקרא שם _asher nikra shem_, should be understood, his name was not _called on it_, but _invoked_ _at it_....

EXPOSITION The opening verses of this chapter explain and amplify the compressed announcement of 2 Samuel 6:1, "Again, David gathered together all the chosen of Israel, thirty thousand." 1 Chronicles 13:1. _And David consulted with the captains of thousands and hundreds, and with every leader. And David said unto all the congregation of Israel, If it seem good unto you, and that it be of the LORD our God, let us send abroad unto our brethren every where, that are left in all the land of Israel, and with them also to the priests and Levites which are in their cities and suburbs, that they may gather themselves unto us: and let us bring again the ark of our God to us: for we enquired not at it in the days of Saul._ It had lain neglected at Kirjathjearim, «in the fields of the wood,» as David writes in the 132 nd Psalm. 1 Chronicles 13:4. And all the congregation said that they would do so: for the thing was right in the eyes of all the people.

3. THE ARK REMOVED FROM KIRJATH-JEARIM CHAPTER 13 _ 1. The consultation about the ark (1 Chronicles 13:1)_ 2. The attempt and the failure (1 Chronicles 13:6) The first thing after the coronation which concerned David was the ark. This reveals the fact that the king had the things of the Lord upon his heart. He at once consulted with the captains about bringing the ark from Kirjath-jearim. The ark is mentioned forty-six times in the two books of Chronicles. (The titles are the following: ark, 15 times; the ark of God, 12 times; the ark of the Covenant of the LORD, 11 times; the ark of the LORD, 4 times; the ark of the Covenant of God, of Thy Strength, of our God and Thy holy ark, each once.)
