Verse 1 Chronicles 3:24. _AND ANANI_] "This is the King Messiah who is to be revealed." - _T_. _Jarchi_ says the same, and refers to Daniel 7:13: _Behold, one like the Son of man came with the clouds_ (ענני ananey) _of heaven_. For this application of the word he gives a fanciful reason, not worthy to be repeated. The _Syriac_ and _Arabic_ omit several names in this table, and make only _twenty-three_ verses in the chapter: but such differences are frequent in the books of Chronicles....

EXPOSITION 1 CHRONICLES 3:1 The whole of this chapter is occupied with the descendants of DAVID: the first nine verses of it with his own sons, classified according to the place of their birth, Hebron or Jerusalem; the remaining verses with the line of kings of his house to Jeconiah and Zedekiah (1 Chronicles 3:16), the grandsons of Zerubbabel (1 Chronicles 3:21), and descendants of Shechaniah (1 Chronicles 3:24). The Davidic Line from Zerubbabel The text of these verses is very uncertain. In 1 Chronicles 3:20 the names of five sons are given, but their father's name (perhaps _Meshullam_) is wanting. In 1 Chronicles 3:21-22 the LXX. differs from the Heb. in such a way as to affect the number of steps in the genealogy; the Heb. seems to reckon but _one_generation between Hananiah and Shemaiah, the LXX. on the contrary reckons _six_; the result on the whole genealogy being that the LXX. counts _eleven_generations after Zerubbabel as against _six_in the Heb.
