_AND THESE ARE THE SONS OF EHUD: THESE ARE THE HEADS OF THE FATHERS OF THE INHABITANTS OF GEBA, AND THEY REMOVED THEM TO MANAHATH:_ These are the sons of Ehud: these are the heads of the fathers of the inhabitants of Geba, х_ RAA'SHEEY _ (H7218) _ 'AABOWT_ (H1), heads of fathers; Septuagint, archontes patrioon] - rulers in Geba. THEY REMOVED THEM TO MANAHATH. The site has not been ascertained, but it is most probable that the new settlement was not far from Geba. It must have been within the territory of Benjamin; because to remove from one tribe to another was in early times a very rare occurrence. Whether this migration was voluntary or compulsory cannot be determined; but it was done in an authorized and orderly manner, under the direction and superintendence of the three 'heads of fathers.'...

AND THEY REMOVED THEM TO MANAHATH - “They” has no antecedent; and it is difficult to supply one. Almost all commentators suppose that there has been some corruption here, from which, however, we may gather that the “sons of Ehud” (or, perhaps, of Ahoah, 1 Chronicles 8:4) were originally settled at Geba (Joshua 18:24 note), but afterward removed to a place called Manahath, probably a town in the vicinity. Gera 1 Chronicles 8:7 directed the movement....

EXPOSITION This chapter carries us back to the tribe of Benjamin, partly dealt with already (1 Chronicles 7:6). The tribe is reverted to for the same kind of reason that called for our 1 Chronicles 3:1. David was so important a character in the Judah tribe. And Saul, with whom the _resume _of Chronicle-history begins (1Ch 8:33; 1 Chronicles 9:39; 1 Chronicles 10:1.), belongs to the Benjamin tribe. The names of Benjamites include many who were born in the captivity and who returned to the land and dwelt in Jerusalem. Twice we read “those dwelt in Jerusalem” (verses 28, 32). Some of the names are found in the list of restored exiles in Ezra (chapter 2). Benjamin being brought back from the exile, their loyalty to Judah and the temple was rewarded by God.
