_THIS DAY WILL THE LORD DELIVER THEE INTO MINE HAND; AND I WILL SMITE THEE, AND TAKE THINE HEAD FROM THEE; AND I WILL GIVE THE CARCASES OF THE HOST OF THE PHILISTINES THIS DAY UNTO THE FOWLS OF THE AIR, AND TO THE WILD BEASTS OF THE EARTH; THAT ALL THE EARTH MAY KNOW THAT THERE IS A GOD IN ISRAEL._ No JFB commentary on these verses....

Verse 47. _FOR THE BATTLE IS THE LORD'S_] It is the Lord's war: you are fighting _against_ him and his religion, as the champion of your party; I am fighting _for_ God, as the champion of his cause....

THE LORD SAVETH NOT WITH SWORD ... - Observe the consistent teaching of such passages as 1 Samuel 14:6; Exodus 14:13; Judges 7:2, Judges 7:4,Judges 7:7; Psalms 44:6, etc., and their practical use to the Church as lessons of trust in God, and distrust of ourselves....

EXPOSITION 1 SAMUEL 17:20-9 HE CAME TO THE TRENCH. More probably the barricade, or outer circle of defence for their camp, made of their wagons (see on 1 Samuel 10:22). Strictly the word means a _wagon track, _but the primary meaning of the verb is _to be round. _This was the shape of camps in old time, and they were protected against surprise by having the wagons and baggage placed round them.
