2 Chronicles 5:1

_THUS ALL THE WORK THAT SOLOMON MADE FOR THE HOUSE OF THE LORD WAS FINISHED: AND SOLOMON BROUGHT IN ALL THE THINGS THAT DAVID HIS FATHER HAD DEDICATED; AND THE SILVER, AND THE GOLD, AND ALL THE INSTRUMENTS, PUT HE AMONG THE TREASURES OF THE HOUSE OF GOD._ Solomon brought in all the things that David his father had dedicated - the immense sums and the store of valuable articles which his father and other generals had reserved and appropriated for the temple (1 Chronicles 22:14; 1 Chronicles 26:26)....

1-10 The ark was a type of Christ, and, as such, a token of the presence of God. That gracious promise, Lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world, does, in effect, bring the ark into our religious assemblies, if we by faith and prayer plead that promise; and this we should be most earnest for. When Christ is formed in a soul, the law written in the heart, the ark of the covenant settled there, so that it becomes the temple of the Holy Ghost, there is true satisfaction in that soul....

CHAPTER V _Solomon having finished the temple, brings in the things which_ _his father had consecrated_, 1. _He assembles the elders and chiefs of Israel and the Levites,_ _in order to bring up the ark from the city of David_, 2, 3. _They bring it and its vessels; and having offered innumerable_ _sacrifices, place it in the temple, under the wings of the_ _cherubim_, 4-10. _The Levites, singers, and trumpeters praise God; and his glory_ _descends and fills the house, so that the priests cannot stand_ _to minister_, 11-14....

This chapter contains one important addition only to the narrative of Kings (see the marginal references); namely, the account of the circumstances under which the manifestation of the Divine Presence took place 2 Chronicles 5:11....

EXPOSITION The first verse of this chapter would have stood more fitly as the last verse of the previous chapter. The narrative, that began with the preparations for building the temple (2 Chronicles 1:1- 2 Chronicles 2:18), and proceeded to the account of the building itself, and the making of the various needed vessels (2 Chronicles 3:1), now goes on to recall and recount the dedication (2 Chronicles 5:2), enriching the parallel (1 Kings 7:51;...
