And shall receive the reward of unrighteousness, as they that count it pleasure to riot in the day time. Spots they are and blemishes, sporting themselves with their own deceivings while they feast with you; RECEIVE, [komioumenoi] - 'shall carry off as their due.' REWARD OF - i:e., for their "unrighteousness" (Alford). Also, unrighteousness shall be its own reward (Revelation 22:11). "Wages of unrighteousness" (2 Peter 2:15) has a different sense. The earthly gain gotten, by "unrighteousness" in the day time; Greek, 'counting the luxury which is in the day time (not restricted to night, as ordinary revelling. 13._Count it pleasure _(171) As though he had said, “They place their happiness in their present enjoyments.” We know that men excel brute animals in this, that they extend their thoughts much farther. It is, then, a base thing in man to be occupied only with present things. Here he reminds us that our minds ought to be freed from the gratifications of the flesh, except we wish to be reduced to the state of beasts. The sins of the false teachers are now described licentiousness (2 Peter 2:10), audacious blasphemy (2 Peter 2:10), open profligacy (2 Peter 2:13), and covetousness like that of Balaam (2 Peter 2:15). They are as worthless as springs without water, and their end is blackness of darkness. The whole section is based on Jude 1:8.* 2 P. softens the severity of Jude's language and rearranges the order.
