Brethren, let every man, wherein he is called, therein abide with God. Abide with God - chiefly careful of his standing toward God, rather than toward men. This clause, "with God," limits the precept (). A man may cease to "abide in his calling," and yet not violate the precept here. If a man's calling be not favourable to his "abiding with God" (in holy fellowship with Him), he may use lawful means to change it (cf. Note, ).
