For all those things hath mine hand made, and all those things have been, saith the LORD: but to this man will I look, even to him that is poor and of a contrite spirit, and trembleth at my word.

For all those (things) hath mine hand made ... have been - namely, made by me. Or, absolutely, were things made; and therefore belong to me, the Creator (Jerome).

But to this (man) will I look - have regard.

(Even) to (him that is) poor - humble ().

And trembleth at my word - as Josiah did, and was therefore "heard" by the Lord; "because thine heart was tender, and thou hast humbled thyself before the Lord, when thou heardest what I spake" ( ; ); and as the people about Ezra did ( ). The spiritual temple of the heart, though not superseding the outward place of worship, is God's favourite dwelling ( ). In the final state in heaven there shall be "no temple," but "the Lord God" Himself ().
