For this cause; because the woman was formed of the flesh and bones of the man. He refers to Adam's words, Genesis 2:24. Shall a man leave his father and mother; as to cohabitation, and domestic conversation; or, let a inan rather leave his father and mother than not cleave to his wife. The apostle doth not cancel the obligations of other relations, but prefers this before them. They two shall be one flesh; i.e. one body, or one man, viz. by the marriage bond, whereby each hath power over the other's body, 1 Corinthians 7:4.
