Ἀδὰμ γὰρ πρῶτος ἐπλάσθη, εἶτα Εὔα. There is a somewhat similar argument in 1 Corinthians 11:9, which see. That Adam was created first implies a certain superiority; such at least seems to be the Apostle’s thought.

The word πλάσσειν is specifically used for the creation of man; see e.g. Genesis 2:7; the usual rendering of the Latins for ἐπλάσθη is formatus est, but am has figuratus.

(ii.) The second reason is based on the history of the Fall; the woman was deceived, not the man, and this suggests that she will be an unfit guide. ‘From a woman was the beginning of sin’ said the Son of Sirach (Sir 25:24). Facilius decepta, facilius decipit, as Bengel tersely puts it.
