παρὰ κυρίου ἐφένετο αὕτη. Either From Jehovah this corner-stone came, or From Jehovah this came to pass = This was from the Lord (R.V.). In the latter case αὕτη is a Hebraism, αὕτη = “this thing.” Cf. οὐκ ἐγένετο ὡς αὕτη (Judges 19:30); αὑ γέγονεν τοιαύτη (1 Samuel 4:7); αὕτη με παρεκάλεσεν (Psalms 119:50), where τὸν λόγον σου precedes. But there is no other instance of this Hebraistic fem. in N.T. For the constr. cf. Mark 12:2; Mark 14:43; John 1:6.
