μήτι οὗτός ἐστιν ὁ υἱὸς Δαυείς; This form of interrogation implies a negative answer. Those who can scarcely hope for an affirmative reply, naturally give a negative cast to their question. ‘Can this possibly (τι) be the son of David?’ But the question itself implies a hope.
