ἄρα οὖν covers the whole argument from Romans 8:12 and proceeds to conclusions as to Christian conduct; but this purpose is interrupted by the thought of the Spirit and the wide bearings of the relation of sonship to GOD. The subject of Christian conduct is resumed in c. 12. Here the main character of the Christian life is expounded.

ὀφειλέται. Still debtors, but under a new allegiance. Cf. Galatians 5:3; Matthew 18:21; Luke 7:41.
