for we walk by faith, not by sight Cf. ch. 2 Corinthians 4:18 and John 20:29. The word translated sightsignifies not the act of vision, but the thing seen. Cf. Luke 3:22; Luke 9:29; John 5:37, in two of which passages the word is translated shape, in the third fashion. This is the reason of the statement made in the last verse. We are absent from God, because we are not yet face to face with the heavenly realities, but dimly realize them afar off (1 Corinthians 13:12; Hebrews 11:1).
