now, after that ye have known … are known The word rendered -known" is different in the original from that so rendered in Galatians 4:8. It here denotes morethan the acknowledgment of God's existence a discern ment of His character and recognition of His authority, on the part of man; approval on the part of God. The same English word is used in 1 Corinthians 13:12 to render a still stronger verb in the Greek of which the margin of R.V. gives -fully know" as the equivalent.

weak and beggarly elements See note on Galatians 4:3. They are -weak", powerless to give life (Hebrews 7:18); -beggarly" (rather, -poor") as contrasted with -the unsearchable riches of Christ", the riches of that grace which came by Jesus Christ.
