The song of the vineyard, the counterpart of ch. Isaiah 5:1 ff. This peculiar and perplexing passage has little relation to the context. It seems to fall into two stanzas; the first (Isaiah 27:2 a) expresses Jehovah's satisfaction in his vineyard (the Theocratic nation), the second (Isaiah 27:4; Isaiah 27:4, which however is obscure) states what He would do if it should again be injured by wicked men. Isaiah 27:6 forms an appendix.
