a man It was generally the task of women to carry water. Amongst the thousands at Jerusalem they would notice this mancarrying an earthen jar of water drawn from one of the fountains. We need not conclude, because it was a slave's employment to do this (Deuteronomy 29:11; Joshua 9:21), that he was a slave. The Apostles were to follow him to whatever house he entered.
