travaileth in pain A powerful and expressive word, indicating both great present distress and the definite resultwhich is to close it.

together This word is to be taken with both "groaneth" and "travaileth." It refers to the complex whole of "creation;" all its kinds and regions sharethe distress and anticipation.

until now i.e. ever since the primeval "subjugation." The "now" perhaps specially refers to the Gospel Age, as that which heralds the final and eternal Age of Glory.
