Alford (Greek Testament) thinks there was another group of disciples within sight, but at a distance. Mary Magdalene. Spoken of here in Luke 8:2 (before the Resurrection). Mary the mother of James and Joseph. She was the wife of Clopas or Alphaeus (John 19:25). See note on Matthew 10:2-4. The mother of Zebedee's sons.
