Heb. 9:23

Hebrews 9:23. (It was) therefore necessary that the patterns of things in the heavens should be purified with these; but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.

see p. 846.#.**[ purified with these, but; the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these] It may perhaps seem strange that celestial things should be spoken of as needing to be purified and cleansed but it is to be considered that as the sacred dwelling and vessels were esteemed to be polluted, by the Israelites, who in various degrees had access to them, so heaven would have been, as it were, polluted by the entrance of such sinners as we into it had not the blood of Christ intervened.
