John 2:4. "Jesus saith unto her, Woman, what have I to do with thee? Mine hour is not yet come." This expression, as it was used in those times, carried nothing of disrespect by what was then understood by the expression and the force that words then bore; they were not looked upon as unsuitable to be used towards one most superior. This is evident, because the devil, when through the greatness of his fear he feigned himself a humble and earnest supplicant to Jesus Christ, used this expression; Luke 8:28, "What have I to do with thee, Jesus, thou Son of God Most High? I beseech thee, torment me not."
