1 PETER—NOTE ON 1 Peter 3:10 Peter draws on Psalms 34:12 (see note on 1 Pet. 2:3). To love life and see good days results from God’s “blessing” (1 Peter 3:9). Peter continues his quotation of Psalms 34:1: For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous (to observe and care for them) and his ears are open to their prayer (for various needs and concerns). This does not mean that God keeps obedient believers from suffering (compare 1 Peter 2:19; 1 Peter 3:14, 1 Peter 3:17; 1 Peter 4:12). It means that God will provide his grace “to strengthen and establish” believers in times of suffering (1 Peter 5:10) and great need (compare 2 Corinthians 12:9; Hebrews 4:16).
