2 CHRONICLES—NOTE ON 2 Chronicles 28:8 Just as Syria has done (v. 2 Chronicles 28:5), Israel takes captives with the intention of enslaving them. The intervention by Oded indicates that the northern tribes still belong to “the Israel of God,” even though they are “in rebellion against the house of David” (2 Chronicles 10:19). The northern and southern tribes are relatives, and both have caused God’s anger by their unfaithfulness (2 Chronicles 28:9, 2 Chronicles 28:11). Both sides need to repent, which the leaders of Ephraim demonstrate.
