GENESIS—NOTE ON Genesis 47:27 While the Egyptians struggle to survive during the famine, Jacob’s family grows and prospers. The idea of being fruitful and multiplying first appears in Genesis 1:22, Genesis 1:28 and is repeated throughout Genesis 1:1 (see Genesis 9:1, Genesis 9:7; Genesis 17:20; Genesis 28:3; Genesis 35:11; Genesis 48:4). Jacob asks to be buried in Canaan, for he knows that the family’s future lies there.
