JAMES—NOTE ON James 2:13 For judgment is without mercy to one who has shown no mercy. This common saying summarizes vv. James 2:1 and leads into the “faith without works” discussion in vv. James 2:14. Mercy triumphs over judgment. Because they have been shown mercy, Christians show mercy to others (e.g., by caring for the poor and hurting). This marks them as believers (Micah 6:8; Zechariah 7:9; Matthew 5:7; Matthew 6:15; Matthew 18:32).
