NUMBERS—NOTE ON Numbers 9:6 The regular Passover of the “first month” was carried out properly (v. Numbers 9:5), but some people could not join in because they were unclean through contact with a corpse (see ch. Numbers 19:1). If, therefore, they wanted to celebrate the Passover at another time, they were allowed to keep it one month later than usual (Numbers 9:11). However, failure to celebrate the Passover when one is able to do so is a serious sin, punished by being cut off (v. Numbers 9:13). This could mean dying suddenly as a divine punishment, being executed, or being separated from the rest of the community. if a stranger sojourns among you (v. Numbers 9:14). Non-Israelites living among God’s people are not required to keep the Passover, but they are welcome to observe it if they would like (see Exodus 20:10; Leviticus 16:29).
