διεστείλατο : that the girl had recovered could not be hid, but that she had been brought back from death might be. Jesus wished this, not desiring that expectations of such acts should be awakened. δοθῆναι φαγεῖν : she could walk and eat; not only alive, but well: “graviter aegroti vix solent cibum sumere,” Grotius. εἶπεν here takes the infinitive after it, not, as often, ἵνα with subjunctive.
