καλόν, etc.: well for him; rather = better. Each evangelist has his own word here: Mt. συμφέρει, Lk. (Luke 17:2) λυσιτελεῖ; but Mk., according to the best attested reading, has the strong phrase μύλος ὀνικὸς in common with Mt. He is content, however, with the expression “in the sea,” instead of Mt.'s “in the deep part of the sea,” the faithful reproduction, probably, of what Jesus actually said.
