they became aware of it and fled to Lystra and Derbe, cities of Lycaonia, and to the surrounding region.

1. Paul and Barnabas became aware of the plan. We are not told how they learned of the plot.

2. At this point they left Iconium and head to Lystra and Derbe.

1. Lystra is important because it is the home of a later companion - Timothy. See Acts 16:1 and the books of 1 Timothy and 2 Timothy.

2. Derbe is important because it is the home of another later companion - Gaius. See Acts 19:29; Acts 20:4; 3 John 1:1, and Romans 16:23.
