Even though the prophecies concerning the Messiah are read continually (passages such as Psalms 22:1; Psalms 69:1 and Isaiah 2:1), the Jewish rulers ignored these predictions, just like they ignored the testimony of John the Baptist. Not only did John predict Jesus, but the prophets also predicted that the Messiah would be rejected, crucified, and. man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. In crucifying Jesus, the rulers did just as the Old Testament prophets had predicted that people would do to the Messiah. "Recognizing neither Him nor the utterances of the prophets" They did not recognize Jesus as the Messiah because He did not fit their preconceived ideas, even though Jesus offered clear proof that He was the Messiah (John 5:36 ff).
