Several representatives of the Western and of other types of text, influenced by the parallel passages in Mark 4:12 and Luke 8:10, altered the construction to i[na with the subjunctive mood of the verb. The references to seeing and hearing come from Isaiah 6:9-10, but in reverse order. Several witnesses add from Mark (or Isaiah) kai. mh. suniw/sin (“and not perceive”).
