Now the God of peace, &c.— The Gentile world is commonly described as at enmity with God and his kingdom; as alienated from him, and in a state of rebellion against him; and God was in Christ reconciling the world unto himself, and by Christ offering to them the terms of reconciliation. Hence he is stiled the God of peace, Romans 15:33; Romans 16:20. 2 Corinthians 13:11.Philippians 4:9. The Jews too, coming to Christ, and being justified by faith, were reconciled in God to all mankind: therefore he is also called the God of peace. The next clause may be rendered, That Shepherd of the sheep, great by the blood of the everlasting covenant.
