But some think the three witnesses mean the Apostle's three visits, and that he is interpreting the quotation allegorically, in accordance with his custom elsewhere: cp. Deuteronomy 3:12; Galatians 4:22. Thus Prof. Stevens paraphrases: I shall visit you a third time, and thus I shall have concerning you a threefold testimony, such as the Law requires to establish a cause.'
