That were spied (seen). — A significant expression. Many idols were, doubtless, concealed by their worshippers.

Put away. — Or, put out, did away with (Deuteronomy 13:6; Deuteronomy 17:7); strictly, consumed. (See the law in Leviticus 20:27; Deuteronomy 18:9.)
