The ever-memorable name of the ever-memorable person, concerning whom it hath pleased God the Holy Ghost to say so much throughout the whole Scripture. His name signifies a supplanter; but after the memorable scene at Jabbock, when Jacob wrestled with the angel and pevailed, the Lord himself changed his name to Israel, a prince.
