Zachariah zak-a-ri'-a (Zacharias; the King James Version, Zacharias):
(1) The son of Barachiah, who, Jesus says, was slain between the temple and the altar (Matthew 23:35, Luke 11:51). The allusion seems to be to the murder of Zechariah, the son of Jehoiada (2 Chronicles 24:20). In this case "Barachiah" would seem to be a gloss which has crept into the text through confusion with the name of the father of the prophet Zechariah, BERECHIAH (which see).

(2) See ZECHARIAH.
