No mention having been made of these in Exodus 25:1, it may be noticed that Josephus says, 'that to every board of the tabernacle, and to every pillar of the hangings of the court, there were cords attached at the top of the board or pillar, and that the further end of the cords or ropes was fastened to brass nails of a cubit long, which at every pillar were driven deep into the ground, and would keep the tabernacle from being shaken by the violence of winds' ('Antiquities,' b. 3:, ch. vi., sec. 2)....

4-19 The tabernacle was to be dedicated to the honour of God, and used in his service; and therefore what was brought for it, was an offering to the Lord. The rule is, Whosoever is of a willing heart, let him bring. All that were skilful must work. God dispenses his gifts; and as every man hath received, so he must minister, 1 Peter 4:10. Those that were rich, must bring in materials to work on; those that were skilful, must serve the tabernacle with their skill: as they needed one another, so the tabernacle needed them both, 1 Corinthians 12:7....

The word “tabernacle” משׁכן _mı̂shkān_ is here used for the full name, the tabernacle of the tent of meeting. It denotes the entire structure....

EXODUS 35-40. P S. THE CONSTRUCTION AND ERECTION OF THE SACRED TENT. This division of the book is generally recognised as coming from the latest stratum in the Hexateuch. This conclusion can be denied (as recently by A. H. Finn in JThS 16:449- 481) only by those who ignore the number, variety, and independence of the converging lines of proof which point to it. The clearest and most specific ground for it is that the later elements in the appendix (Exodus 30 f.) to Exodus 25-29 are here redistributed and put in their proper places. Further, the radical differences of order, and astonishing omissions as, in places, of the incense altar and the laver (both among the supplements in Exodus 30) in LXX require the assumption that the Gr. translators had the material before them in an earlier and less well-arranged draft of the Heb. text. It does not follow that all differences are due to this...

All skilled workmen among the people invited to assist in the task of making the objects prescribed. There is nothing in chs. 25 31 corresponding to this invitation: Exodus 28:3 relates to the priestly vestments alone. The enumeration of things to be made begins with the Dwelling, and then proceeds in order from the Holy of holies to the Court, ending with the vestments for the priests....
