Verse Ezekiel 8:10 10. _HATH NOT GIVEN FORTH UPON USURY_] בנשך לא יתן _beneshech lo yitten_. נשך nasach signifies to _bite; usury_ is properly so termed, because it _bites_ into and _devours_ the _principal_. Usury signifies, with us, exacting _unlawful interest_ for money; and taking the _advantage_ of a man's necessities to advance him cash on _exorbitant profit_. USURY - is the profit exacted for the loan of money, “increase” that which is taken for goods; both are forbidden Leviticus 25:36; Deuteronomy 23:19. UPON USURY.— See Deuteronomy 23:19 : _unto a stranger thou mayest lend upon usury;_ whence it follows, that taking increase is not _malum per se;_ but agreeable to justice, if duly circumstanced. Every kind and degree of usury was forbidden to the Israelites among each other, to promote a spirit of mutual kindness.
