_THEN JOSEPH COMMANDED TO FILL THEIR SACKS WITH CORN, AND TO RESTORE EVERY MAN'S MONEY INTO HIS SACK, AND TO GIVE THEM PROVISION FOR THE WAY: AND THUS DID HE UNTO THEM._ Joseph commanded to fill their sacks with corn, х_ KªLEEYHEM_ (H3627)] - utensils, vessels. AND TO RESTORE EVERY MAN'S MONEY INTO HIS SACK, х_ SAQOW_ (H8242)] - coarse cloth, made of hair-sacking, to hold grain. There are two sorts of sacks taken notice of under different names in the history of Joseph, which ought not to be confounded-the one for grain, the other for the baggage and everything in general which a person carries with him for his own use. There are no wagons used almost in all Asia, as far as to India: everything is carried upon beasts of burden in sacks of wool, covered in the middle with leather down to the bottom, the better to make resistance to water, etc. Sack

25-28 The brethren came for corn, and corn they had: not only so, but every man had his money given back. Thus Christ, like Joseph, gives out supplies without money and without price. The poorest are invited to buy. But guilty consciences are apt to take good providences in a bad sense; to put wrong meanings even upon things that make for them....

Verse Genesis 42:25. _COMMANDED TO FILL THEIR SACKS_] כליהם _keleyhem, their_ _vessels_; probably large woollen bags, or baskets lined with leather, which, as Sir John Chardin says, are still in use through all Asia, and are called _tambellet_; they are covered with leather, the better to resist the wet, and to prevent dirt and sand from mixing with the grain. These _vessels_, of whatever sort, must have been different from those called שק _sak_ in the _twenty-seventh_ and following verses, which was probably only a small _sack_ or _bag_, in which each had reserved a sufficiency of corn for his ass during the journey; the larger vessels or bags serving to hold the _wheat_ or _rice_ they had brought, and their own packages. The reader will at once see that the English word _sack_ is plainly derived from the Hebrew....
